Registration has begun for a free, six-week, evidence-based Live Well with Chronic Conditions workshop for adults with ongoing health conditions such as arthritis, high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes or any other chronic issues. During this program, participants learn better ways to manage recurring challenges such as pain, fatigue, difficult emotions, anxiety and stress. This workshop takes place at the Litchfield Community Center, 421 Bantam Road, on Thursdays, April 3 until May 5 from 11am to 1pm. Two trained Live Well leaders from the Torrington Area Health District will facilitate this free, interactive program. Participants will learn about healthy eating, physical activity and exercise, dealing with difficult emotions, decision-making, communication skills, working with healthcare providers and action planning. Materials will be provided to participants, and those who complete the workshop will get the book Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Conditions and a relaxation CD. Functional Strengthening will improve overall functional capacity and quality of life- improving your ability to perform daily activities such as lifting, carrying, reaching, movement, and everyday tasks. Come and push, pull, hinge, bend, lunge, squat, rotate and lift with us! We will use dumbbells and resistance bands. Keep those muscles functioning as they were designed to. Class is covered by Silversneakers and Renew Active insurance but anyone is welcome to attend this class. If insurance will not be available a donation is welcomed. The class will be 45 minutes in duration. Wear appropriate clothes for exercise, please. Instructor Janice Connor will be instructing the group. Janice has been a Group exercise and a Spin instructor for many years and has taught Silversneakers for over ten years. However, she finds the challenges of compound movements and using dumbbells her favorite. Janice has attended exercise classes for decades as her Mother, Ann, began teaching fitness and movement in the 1950’s in the U.K.

“Powerful Tools for Caregivers” -A Free Six-Week Class Sponsored by The Litchfield Health & Wellness Resources, Inc. Tuesdays, April 8- May 13 Co-facilitators: Susan Levine, RN, retired Tina Bernacki RN, retired. *Registration is required ~ Class size limited to 10* This nationally accredited program is designed to give caregivers the tools needed to take care of themselves while they care for someone with a chronic and/or debilitating condition. The six classes help caregivers develop self-care strategies to reduce stress, improve self-confidence, better communicate feelings, balance their lives, and increase their abilities to make tough decisions.

Marie Boyens leads a light Tai Chi exercise each week focusing on reflexology and meditation. This class is free. Your safety is our main concern so we will be following proper guidelines.

This 6-week course runs April 3 - May 8, 2025. WHAT IS THE PREVENT T2 PROGRAM AND WHY PARTICIPATE? It is a proven program that has been shown to prevent or delay type 2 diabetes in high-risk patients. The curriculum emphasizes self-monitoring, self-efficacy, and problem-solving; provides for coach feedback; includes participant materials to support program goals; and calls for participant weigh-ins to track progress. HOW DOES IT WORK & WHO IS ELIGIBLE? PreventT2 empowers patients with prediabetes and those at risk for type 2 diabetes to take charge of their health and well-being. To participate, patients must: Be at least 18 years old; Be overweight (BMI ? 24; ? 22 if Asian) Have no previous diagnosis of type 1 or type 2 diabetes Have established risk factors for developing type 2 diabetes Have been diagnosed with prediabetes within the past year or previously diagnosed with gestational diabetes.
