Devil with a Brush: Caravaggio’s Dramatic Masterpieces Caravaggio's turbulent life story reads like a crime thriller, making him one of art history's most captivating and controversial figures. He was a revolutionary Italian painter of the Baroque era, as famous for his violent temper and criminal behavior as he was for his groundbreaking artistic techniques.
