I am an educator\, nature lover\, and mother who is deeply passionate about community-based learning. While in Northern California\, I was a teacher and president of an off-grid\, community school\, where education was rooted in nature\, connection\, and resilience. While living in a rural area\, I also started a playgroup through the First 5 program to support families with young children who had limited access to early-childhood resources. She was born and raised in Torrington in an Italian-American family. Her grandmother prepared food with love\, often using ingredients from her grandfather’s garden.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCharlene started collecting cookbooks and reading them like novels at a young age. When time allowed\, she continually experimented in the kitchen while pursuing her corporate career and raising four children.\n\nOver ten years ago\, Charlene took a leap of faith to open Ciesco Catering\, which was named in honor of her maternal grandparents. Like her grandmother\, Charlene prepares food with love.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDenise Pastore Ciesco lives in North Granby with her husband\, Gary\, and their two horses. She was born in Torrington and raised in an Italian-American family\, relocating to Italy with her family as a teenager. Denise immersed herself in Italian culture while celebrating traditional American Holidays with family and friends. The consummate hostess\, Denise’s dinners were always famous among anyone who knew her.\n\nWhen Denise’s two children were grown\, she and her former spouse\, who was in the construction business\, built and owned a resort with two restaurants. Denise would ask her world-renowned chefs for tips and ideas and continues incorporating this knowledge into her recipes.\n\nDenise and Charlene met shortly after the catering company opened through Charlene’s cousin\, Denise’s husband. They are cousins in every way possible. Together\, they create unique menu items while having fun—sometimes too much fun with a dash of mischief.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nClick here to Register

SUMMARY:Free Hearing Screenings
DESCRIPTION:Free Comprehensive Hearing Screening! Call 860-567-8302 to book your 20 minute appointment between 9:30-12pm.\n\n\n\n\nHearing Care Centers will be on site at Litchfield Community Center to offer free comprehensive hearing screenings\, a series of tests that assess an individual’s ability to hear sounds and understand speech. The screening typically includes a range of tests such as pure-tone audiometry\, speech audiometry\, and middle ear testing. The purpose of the screening is to determine whether an individual has any hearing loss and the extent of the hearing loss. \nComprehensive hearing screening is important because hearing loss can have a significant impact on an individual’s quality of life. It can affect an individual’s ability to communicate effectively\, participate in social activities\, and perform daily tasks. Early detection of hearing loss can help prevent these negative impacts by allowing for prompt treatment\, such as hearing aids or cochlear implants\, which can improve an individual’s ability to hear and communicate. Additionally\, early detection of hearing loss can help identify any underlying medical conditions that may be causing the hearing loss and allow for timely treatment of those conditions. Overall\, comprehensive hearing screening is an important tool in maintaining overall health and wellbeing.

SUMMARY:Roots of Wonder Pre-Kindergarten Program
DESCRIPTION:Roots of Wonder Forest Program\nCLICK HERE TO REGISTER \nA Nature-Based Pre-Kindergarten Enrichment ProgramHosted by the Litchfield Community Center \nRoots of Wonder invites children ages 3–5 to explore\, play\, and learn in an engaging\, nature-centered environment. This unique program is designed to foster curiosity\, creativity\, and a deep appreciation for the natural world through hands-on activities and outdoor exploration. \nProgram Schedule:📅 Mondays\, Wednesdays\, and Fridays🕛 12:00 – 3:00 PM📍 Litchfield Community Center \nOur mission is to nurture each child’s natural sense of wonder and empathy for the world around them\, encouraging discovery and connection within our community \nKatie P \nBefore moving back to the Northwest Corner\, I worked as a Lead Teacher at the Young Naturalist Preschool in the Hudson Valley. There\, we encouraged self-discovery through time spent in nature\, expanding on children’s social and emotional skills through play-based learning. Prior to this\, I worked across the country as an Environmental Educator in the State Park System and with Non-profit Organizations. Spending the most time with the Appalachian Mountain Club\, where I guided and taught programs over three different states. I have always gravitated to the wonders that young children carry in them. Allowing them to explore\, learn\, and appreciate nature has been a great culmination of my passions and work experience\, and I feel fortunate to provide these experiences to young children in my community.   \n  \nCorynne K \nGrowing up in Litchfield\, Connecticut\, I ventured to Northern California\, where I spent the past 13 years. I recently moved back to the area and am excited to share the experiences I gained while living and working in an off-grid community. Community is incredibly important to me\, and I am excited to share my passion for education\, nature\, and community through this program!
