DESCRIPTION:CLICK HERE TO REGISTER \n12:00 Light Lunch will be served \n12:30 Presentation \n  \nThe Language of Freedom – How Revolutionary Rhetoric Inspired a Nation\nThis presentation takes an exciting look at the American Colonies before and during the Revolution to understand how rhetoric inspired its people. We’ll delve into patriotic church leaders and some of their inspiring sermons from various colonies. Many sermons were reprinted and distributed across the many colonies. Sermons were not the only documents printed for widespread reuse. People had opinions and wrote motivating pamphlets\, today’s blogs; most were anonymous for fear of the King’s repercussions. Newspapers reprinted excerpts from sermons and pamphlets. Other newspapers simply reprinted the articles\, spreading a common message across the colonies. Broadsides\, large single-page newspapers\, carried graphic illustrations often designed to inspire and were often nailed to public buildings.\nMost of these printed documents found their way into the lively hubs of colonial taverns. Citizens read the materials aloud so all those who could not read would hear the opinions. Initially\, the language sparked long debates between loyalists and patriots\, but as the options narrowed under British control\, colonists came to see rebellion as their best option. See and experience some of the pressures that helped to brew a revolution. \nSpeaker Bio – John Cilio\nJohn Cilio is a fascinating historical storyteller\, author\, and researcher who has been captivating audiences with his tales of the past for over 15 years. The screening typically includes a range of tests such as pure-tone audiometry\, speech audiometry\, and middle ear testing. The purpose of the screening is to determine whether an individual has any hearing loss and the extent of the hearing loss. \nComprehensive hearing screening is important because hearing loss can have a significant impact on an individual’s quality of life. It can affect an individual’s ability to communicate effectively\, participate in social activities\, and perform daily tasks. Early detection of hearing loss can help prevent these negative impacts by allowing for prompt treatment\, such as hearing aids or cochlear implants\, which can improve an individual’s ability to hear and communicate. Additionally\, early detection of hearing loss can help identify any underlying medical conditions that may be causing the hearing loss and allow for timely treatment of those conditions. DESCRIPTION:Evening Glow Music Series \nFeb 12th – 3:30PM \nTrue North Trio featuring: \nPianist\, William Braun \nViolinist\, Artemis Simerson \nCellist\, Julie Ribchinsky \n  \nDonations Welcome! \nClick Here to Register \nPerformances are followed by a reception with refreshments. \nFormed in 2024\, the piano trio True North is passionately dedicated to presenting the best of chamber music repertoire in New England. The three Connecticut musicians had previously performed in various combinations for over 40 years. \nCellist Julie Ribchinsky teaches cello at Wesleyan University\, and is a Professor Emeritus at Central Connecticut State University. A founding member of the Connecticut Trio\, for many decades Ribchinsky performed with violinist Gerard Rosa and pianist Linda Laurent in yearly concerts at the New Britain Museum of American Art. Ribchinsky performs often throughout the area as a soloist and recitalist. \nViolinist Artemis Simerson was the Assistant Concertmaster of the New Haven Symphony for 30 years until 2022\, and she continues to teach violin at Choate Rosemary Hall. She participates in numerous musical performances in the Wall Street Chamber Players and in recordings\, and she is delighted to have time to share her great love of the piano trio repertoire. \nPianist William Braun plays principal keyboards for the New Haven Symphony Orchestra\, and is a professor at The Hartt School of the University of Hartford. He has written more than 300 articles for Opera News magazine. He has made recordings for Koch Classics and the PBS TV series American Masters.
