SUMMARY:Litchfield Audubon Society Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Birds and Wildlife of Argentina and Patagonia\n\n\n\nThis program will highlight Dave Tripp’s visits to Argentina in 2022 and 2025\, specifically the Patagonia region. Dave will entertain us with stories and adventures as well as his spectacular photos of the Patagonia avifauna. Dave has been birding since he was 12\, when he went on an LHAS bird walk with his sixth-grade teacher at White Memorial in Litchfield. He has been hooked on birding ever since! He currently serves as the treasurer of LHAS and compiles two Christmas Bird Counts and a summer count. He also is a board member of the Connecticut Ornithological Association\, for which he has spent 25 years on the Avian Records of Connecticut Committee and founded the Connecticut Big Day team — the Raven Lunatics\, who hold the state record of 192 species in a 24-hour period. He has traveled worldwide and leads trips to Central and South America\, especially Brazil\, as a hobby. \n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\nNOTE: The meetings will be in person and on Zoom\, unless otherwise indicated. SUMMARY:Live\,Learn\,Lunch: Eco-Friendly Cremation
DESCRIPTION:12:00 Lunch\n12:30 Presentation \nCLICK HERE TO REGISTER \n  \nA Natural\, Gentle Alternative to Flame Cremation\nWater cremation\, also known as alkaline hydrolysis or aquamation\, is a modern\, environmentally friendly alternative to traditional cremation. Instead of using fire\, this process uses a gentle water-based solution to return the body to its natural elements. \nWater cremation mimics the natural decomposition process but accelerates it using a combination of water\, heat\, and alkali. It produces significantly lower carbon emissions\, uses less energy\, and leaves no harmful airborne pollutants. What remains is a soft\, sterile powder — similar to traditional cremated remains — which is returned to the family in an urn. \nThis process honors both the individual and the planet\, making it a meaningful choice for those who value sustainability and simplicity. \n  \nFREE / pre-registration required for lunch.

SUMMARY:Free Hearing Screenings
DESCRIPTION:Free Comprehensive Hearing Screening! Call 860-567-8302 to book your 20 minute appointment between 9:30-12pm.\n\n\n\n\nHearing Care Centers will be on site at Litchfield Community Center to offer free comprehensive hearing screenings\, a series of tests that assess an individual’s ability to hear sounds and understand speech. The screening typically includes a range of tests such as pure-tone audiometry\, speech audiometry\, and middle ear testing. The purpose of the screening is to determine whether an individual has any hearing loss and the extent of the hearing loss. \nComprehensive hearing screening is important because hearing loss can have a significant impact on an individual’s quality of life. It can affect an individual’s ability to communicate effectively\, participate in social activities\, and perform daily tasks. Early detection of hearing loss can help prevent these negative impacts by allowing for prompt treatment\, such as hearing aids or cochlear implants\, which can improve an individual’s ability to hear and communicate. Additionally\, early detection of hearing loss can help identify any underlying medical conditions that may be causing the hearing loss and allow for timely treatment of those conditions. Overall\, comprehensive hearing screening is an important tool in maintaining overall health and wellbeing.

SUMMARY:Vincent\, A Portrait by the Postman Roulin -Theatrical Performance
DESCRIPTION:On Thursday\, September 24\, the Litchfield Community Center will be hosting a theatrical performance entitled\, “Vincent\, A Portrait by the Postman Roulin”. This intimate and revealing one-man show paints a portrait of the great artist\, Vincent van Gogh\, through the eyes of Vincent’s loyal friend\, the Postman Roulin. The postman relays the artist’s amazing personal and artistic journey from his native Holland to the South of France. You are transported to a café in Auvers\, France in the year 1890. Before you are two chairs\, a table\, a baguette in a country basket\, a bottle of peasant wine and two glasses. You are asked\, “Would you like to share my bottle of wine and talk? Sometimes strangers can have the most intimate conversations.” \n\n\n\n\n\nFor the next hour\, author\, educator\, and Screen Actors Guild actor\, Ted Zalewski as the Postman\, captures the spirit of van Gogh the man\, and the essence of van Gogh\, the artist. Written by Mr. Zalewski\, the play is based on extensive research on van Gogh’s life and letters and is filled with humor\, passion\, and joie de vivre. \n\n\nVincent van Gogh was a Dutch painter\, generally considered the greatest after Rembrandt van Rijn\, and one of the greatest of the Post-Impressionists. “The striking color\, emphatic brushwork\, and contoured forms of his work powerfully influenced the current of Expressionism in modern art.” He painted almost 900 paintings in 10 years and died at the age of 37\, having only sold one painting. Sadly\, van Gogh did not live long enough to see the extent of his legacy\, which includes that his works now command some of the highest prices in the world. Some of van Gogh’s famous works include\, “Starry Night” (1889)\, “The Potato Eaters” (1885)\, “The Night Café” (1888)\, “Sunflowers” (1888)\, and several self-portraits. “He was a pioneer of the post-impressionistic selfie.” \n\n\nVincent van Gogh’s friendship with Joseph Roulin\, the postmaster in Arles\, played a significant role in the artist’s life during his stay in Southern France. Roulin became one of van Gogh’s closest friends and favorite portrait subject. He painted over 20 portraits of Roulin and his family during their friendship\, showcasing their difficult lives as working-class people. \n\n$10.00 pp \n\nCLICK HERE TO REGISTER
