SUMMARY:Pysansky Egg Decorating - Sold Out
DESCRIPTION:Pysanky Ukrainian Egg Decorating Workshop with Sharon Leonard “The Egglady.” \nOur guest\, Sharon Leonard “The Egglady” will teach and demonstrate the Art of Ukrainian Easter Egg decoration. The Pysanky decorating process is relatively simple but keeping a steady hand can be a challenge. The process involves applying melted wax to the eggshell in a design\, then dipping it into different colored dyes\, layer by layer. Going progressively darker\, the process is repeated for each color and by the end of the process the egg will be covered with a great deal of wax. The next step shows something spectacular. Using the side of a candle flame\, guests melt away the wax to reveal a brilliantly colored egg. \nClass is limited to 20. \nCLICK HERE TO REGISTER \n

SUMMARY:Litchfield Audubon Society Meeting
DESCRIPTION:New England Cottontail Restoration \n\n\n\n\nApril 6\, 2026\nMonday\, 6:45 p.m.\nLocation: Litchfield Community Center \n\n\n\n\nIn 2011 Lisa Wahle helped us launch a New England Cottontail (NEC) restoration project at Boyd Woods Sanctuary\, creating what we referred to as “rabbitat.” Here she will talk about the initiative\, lessons learned along the way\, other species that have benefitted\, and new directions for conservation and research. She will highlight the habitat work that was conducted and recognition of the land stewards who shepherded this project. \n  \nLisa is a retired wildlife habitat biologist who worked with the CT DEEP\, the Wildlife Management Institute\, USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service\, and Connecticut landowners to restore populations of the imperiled NEC and other young-forest and shrubland-dependent species. She represented Connecticut on the regional NEC Technical Committee and provided assistance to DEEP for statewide NEC project planning and implementation\, as well as population monitoring and reporting. Lisa chairs the Chester Conservation Committee and is on the board of the Connecticut Botanical Society. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe meeting and program will be available via Zoom for those unable to attend the in-person meeting at the Litchfield Community Center. \n\n\n  \nNote: To participate on Zoom\, go to the Calendar section of our website\, lhasct.org\, to register. \nThe meeting times are when refreshments are available. A short business meeting begins at 7 p.m.\, followed by the presentation.

SUMMARY:Evening Glow - Apr 9th
DESCRIPTION:Evening Glow Music Series \nApril 9th- 3:30PM \nAlyce Cognetta Bertz\, Violin \nMeg Cognetta Heaton\, Piano \n  \nClick Here to Register \nDonations Welcome! \nPerformances are followed by a reception with refreshments. \nALYCE COGNETTA BERTZ & MEG COGNETTA HEATON are sisters who play violin and piano respectively and have played together professionally since they were very young.  \nThere’s a special magic and sometimes madness to playing music with your sister. For decades\, Meg and Alyce have been navigating the intricate dance of chamber music side by side\, their shared history echoing in every phrase they play. Their mother Mary instilled in them her own deep love for music\, a gift both sisters have cherished and are now passing on to the next generation\, teaching and playing alongside their own children and grandchildren. When they perform it isn’t just a concert; it’s a celebration of sisterhood and the quiet joy of two lives lived in harmony.  \nAlyce is the concertmaster of the Waterbury Symphony and a frequent virtuoso soloist with orchestras and chamber music ensembles. She has given concerts at Carnegie Hall\, The Kennedy Center\, La Philarmonica de las Americas in Mexico\, The Blossom Music Festival in Ohio\, and The Waterloo Music Festival with members of the New York Philharmonic. She studied chamber music with the Cleveland Quartet\, the Juilliard Quartet and Joseph Gingold. Alyce has been violin soloist on WQXR in New York\, and has appeared as soloist with the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra\, Hartt Symphony Orchestra and on numerous occasions with the Waterbury Symphony.  \nAlyce performs on an exceptional Italian violin made by Desiato- Postiglione in 1869.  \nMeg performs and teaches in the Finger Lakes region of New York\, most recently as the piano soloist in the Beethoven “Choral Fantasy.” She has performed as soloist with the Rochester Philharmonic and the Finger Lakes Symphony.  \nA quartet\, consisting of 4 pianists at 2 pianos\, has been meeting every Tuesday in Geneva N.Y. for the past 100 years\, with Meg keeping a seat warm for the past 45 years.
