Paul Winter's 39th Annual Winter Solstice Celebration

9:30 am - 7:00 pm

Location: Cost: Trip is full * Trip is full

Paul Winter’s Winter Solstice Celebration embraces the spirit of the holidays within the extraordinary acoustics of the world’s largest cathedral, St John the Divine. This multimedia event features the Paul Winter Consort, gospel singer Theresa Thomason, and the 25 dancers and drummers of the Forces of Nature Dance Theatre under the direction of Abdel Salaam. These performances offer a contemporary take on ancient solstice rituals, when people gathered together on the longest night of the year to welcome the return of the sun and the birth of a new year.

The Winter Solstice Celebration has become a favorite NYC holiday alternative to The Nutcracker and Radio City’s Christmas Spectacular. The event is pageantry at its best: a theatrical co-creation of music, art, and dance that inhabits the entirety of the Cathedral’s titanic space.

The Paul Winter Consort includes: Paul Winter on soprano sax, Paul McCandless, oboe; Eugene Friesen, cello; Jeff Holmes, keyboard; Eliot Wadopian, bass; Jamey Haddad, percussion; Tim Brumfield on the Cathedral’s great Aeolian-Skinner pipe organ, and Scott Sloan on the giant seven-foot sun gong, which ascends to the 124-foot vault of the Cathedral at the symbolic moment of the return of the sun.

$90 includes roundtrip coach bus transportation, driver gratuity and ticket for concert.
